The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for a “Fortnight for Freedom,” a 14-day period of prayer, education, and action in support of religious freedom, from June 21 to July 4. This is a time when our liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power. The Catholic Church affirms the right of religious liberty and encourages government at the local, state, and federal levels, to protect it and to resist any unnecessary restraints on its exercise.
The United States Bishops invite the faithful to participate in the “Fortnight for Freedom” to highlight the importance of protecting religious liberty. Get ideas at fortnight4freedom.org. You’ll find prayer and liturgical resources, fact sheets, and daily reflections.
